Judas swing
Also called false move. What it means, how it looks on a gold (XAUUSD) chart, and the mistake most traders make with it.
Judas swing: A Judas swing is a false move early in a session, usually around the London open or New York open, that runs liquidity in one direction before price reverses into the day's real direction.
Judas swing on a gold chart
With a bullish bias, gold dips from $4,115 to $4,101 at 03:00 New York time, taking the Asian low, then reverses and closes the day at $4,142. The dip was the Judas swing.
How traders use it
Traders with a clear daily bias wait for the false move against it, then enter after the shift back.
Common mistake
Assuming every early move is fake. Without a daily bias, there is no way to know which move is the Judas.
