Balanced price range (BPR)

Also called BPR. What it means, how it looks on a gold (XAUUSD) chart, and the mistake most traders make with it.

Balanced price range: A balanced price range is the overlap between a bullish and a bearish fair value gap. Price has moved through the area fast in both directions, and the overlap often acts as a strong reaction zone.

Balanced price range on a gold chart

Gold drops from $4,140 to $4,110 leaving a bearish gap at $4,122–$4,130, then rallies back leaving a bullish gap at $4,118–$4,126. The overlap, $4,122–$4,126, is the BPR.

How traders use it

Used like a fair value gap, but traders expect a sharper reaction because both directions left imbalance there.

Common mistake

Looking for BPRs everywhere. They are rare; forcing one usually means two unrelated gaps.
